BRIEFING
John Lack's, mission is to inspire people to live their essence. To this end, he founded the brand "Essence" and offers coaching, group programs and retreats. He is also a trainer at the School of Life Berlin, he conducts seminars on personal development and cultural change within organizations.
Following the successful launch of his first book, "Lara and the Wishbeings" he invited me as illustrator and Bavaroise studio once again to give life to his second book, "Lara und ihr Beschützer". This narrative explores the intricate connection between self-regulation, our nervous system, and our perception of the world.
The main character of the story it's Lara, the same curious seven-year-old girl from the previous book. This time Lara embarks on a journey to understand why she sometimes engages in unwanted behaviors, such as pushing her brother or pulling her friend's hair. Guided by Sophia, a charming and wise fairy, Lara learns practical exercises for self-regulation and co-regulation in everyday life.
We has accepted the challenge of illustrating 17 pages of this colorful world, bringing Lara's adventure to life. Some of the task included personifying four animals that represent the nervous system's responses to both dangerous and safe situations.

IDEA
The book's creation began with numerous sketches of the Protector. After exploring various designs, the character resembling a neuron was our favorite. The second phase involved drawing each animal, adapting their features to Lara's unique personality. This included the lion, the rabbit, the lizard, and finally, the monkey. Following some adjustments, we moved on to the next step: designing each individual page with dedicated space for the text. Minor changes were made throughout the process with a constant and vibrant feedback from John.
The third and final phase focused on designing the front and back covers, as well as creating extra informative pages. The concluding task involved organizing the entire book, incorporating the revised text, and preparing it for the printing process. The result was an amazing colorful book, ready for sale just before Christmas.
